A homemade jar cake is delicious and so easy to bake that even the children can make it – or more like assemble the cake themselves. A fun, easy and delicious jar cake can be accomplished even by smaller hands and what’s best, putting it together is fun!
For the cake base a swiss roll will do fine, and you won’t even have to worry about tearing the cake – this time it will be cut up into chunks in any case. A ready-made cake base from the store will also suit this cake. Then all you need is putting it together in a jar! You can use your creativity and add in all your own and your family's favorite fillings. You can even make a different cake for all family members.
A cake in a jar is easy to serve and it can also be taken along on summer picnics!
1. Nice jars (with lids)
2. Creativity
3. A sponge cake or a swiss roll base (check the recipe)
4. Different fillings (for example meringue, chocolate chips, caramel sauce, berries, salted nuts, chocolate or toffee candies, curd, whipped cream or ice cream)
5. A spoon
4 eggs
1,5 dl sugar
1 dl flour
½ dl potatoflour or cornflour
½ dl cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
Beat the eggs and sugar into a cream. Mix together the dry ingredients and gradually add to the batter while mixing. Pour the batter onto a lined baking tray. Bake in 200-225 degrees Celsius for about 8 to 10 minutes. Sprinkle sugar onto a baking paper and turn the cake base onto it. Carefully remove the uppermost baking paper.
When the cake base has cooled down, you can break off a piece onto the bottom of the jar. Lift on top of it a spoonful of vanilla curd, a few raspberries, some crushed meringue and chocolate chips. Dash some caramel sauce on top. Repeat these layers until the jar is full. Leave some raspberries on top and decorate with lemon balm leaves for example. Serve and enjoy!
